News Takashi Kanamura Laboratory to host "EFC 2023 in KYOTO" on December 4-5, 2023

Takashi Kanamura Laboratory held an international academic workshop “EFC 2023 in KYOTO” at Kyoto University Tachibana Dormitory (12/4) and Seifuso Villa (12/5). EFC is an international academic workshop on Energy Finance, held annually in Europe and Australia from 2011 to 2019 before the COVID-19. After the COVID-19, we resumed EFC for the first time in Asia as “EFC 2023 in KYOTO”. This workshop invited 18 researchers from 6 countries gathered for lively discussions, including Prof. Derek Bunn (London Business School, UK), Prof. Marie-Hélène Gagnon (Université Laval, Canada), Prof. Nikos Nomikos (City, University of London, UK), Prof. Stefan Trueck (Macquarie University, Australia), and Prof. Rafal Weron (Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Poland). Kyoto University Tachibana Dormitory, especially Seifuso Villa, is a historical building (an important cultural property) donated to Kyoto University. It is an environment that resonates with the senses of its high quality, all the settings that showcase highly skilled work, and the serenity that pervades the entire premises. Over the two days of the conference, over seven hours of lively discussions were held from the morning, with each presenting cutting-edge academic achievements in Energy Finance. ”EFC 2023 in KYOTO” also featured the tea ceremony, a part of the GSAIS (Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability) curriculum, in the guest room of Seifuso Villa with a view of the Japanese garden by Jihei Ogawa to introduce Japanese culture. We were convinced that they would provide a good stimulus for each participant’s creativity. In addition to Associate Professor Takashi Kanamura’s presentation, Keiji Sakakibara (D5), Rassi Samin (D3), and Zhao Xiaoxian (D2) from Kanamura Lab presented their research to the energy finance researchers who attended the event, taking many questions and receiving comments. We would like to conclude our report by saying that it was a very meaningful opportunity for the students.
