Application Guidelines for Third-Year Transfer to the Doctoral Program 【PDF】

Application Process for GSAIS

Step 0: Screening for Application Eligibility(Only those who need it)

(1) Applicants who wish to apply according to eligibility (6), (7), or (8) will be screened for eligibility prior to application, and must submit the following documents by mail to the student affairs section of GSAIS.

Submission deadline: 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024(must arrive)

(2) Applicants who have completed or will complete a graduate course in a foreign country must contact the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO) below to inquire about their eligibility for application before contacting the faculty member they wish to apply to. If the inquiry process is not completed by the application deadline, the application may not be filed.

Step1: Apply to the Admission Assistance Office (AAO)

You must apply to the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO) before applying to GSAIS. When applying to the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO), please complete and upload the "Research Plan" below, indicating the type of research you would like to conduct at GSAIS.

Please also enter the name of the faculty member with whom you would like to supervise your research after enrollment. The Admissions Assistance Office (AAO) will contact the faculty member and let you know if the contact is acceptable.

If the contact is acceptable, after carefully discussing your research plan with the faculty member you wish to supervise your research, please have him/her signature the "Letter of Undertaking" form below after passing the qualifying exam and submit it during the application period.

Please complete the application to the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO), the preliminary consultation with the faculty member, and receive the Letter of Undertaking by the end of the application period.

* When submitting a web application to the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO), the applicant must upload transcripts and (expected) graduation certificates from the last school attended.

Step2: Application procedure

The application procedure is completed by proceeding with processes “(1) Online application registration and uploading application materials” and “(2) Payment of examination fee” by each deadline.
