How I Can Apply What I Learn at Shishu-Kan
Through the study life of GSAIS, I mainly do the research. But I can also do the communication with students and professors in other fields, get the information about the opinions from other majors, learning about how can I research do the efforts to the world in a global comprehensive view and point the direction of my research and my life.
PEFC is expected to be a full-fledged spread to automotive power supply and distributed power supply for home as a clean power generation device with less environmental impact. At present, a large amount of platinum is used as an electrode catalyst, especially as an oxygen reduction catalyst, in order to accelerate the reaction of fuel cells. However, there is a problem that platinum has a small amount of resources and it is difficult to reduce the cost of fuel cells. In order to develop a low platinum catalyst which dramatically reduces the amount of platinum used to less than 1/10, we are developing a core-shell catalyst in which the surface of the metal other than platinum is covered with platinum. However, at present it is not well understood how to improve oxygen reduction activity. If we can clarify what the activity is determined, it is expected that the development of core-shell catalyst will progress dramatically. As a result, the cost of polymer electrolyte fuel cells can be greatly reduced, enabling large-scale dissemination.
