How I Can Apply What I Learn at Shishu-Kan

Shishukan program not only provides me with opportunity to research but also offer variety of different subjects, such as evolutionary biology, international economics, humanosphere science, to name a few. It is necessary to advance my knowledge in different fields of study for my future career, and I know that it will also be beneficial for my research. In addition, in Shishukan there are students coming from different backgrounds. These students, including myself, live in a same building therefore we encounter each other most of the time. Because we live in the same building, we hold study sessions and discuss multiple topics from our own point of views. These types of sessions inspire me to study different subjects and also want to advance my knowledge in psychology as well.

Research Topic

My current research is about mental health institutions and its patients in Japan. My main research question is “How do people in Japan think about patients who have disorders?” It is difficult for people who have mental health disorders who had been in institutions to go back to the community and live their own lives again. I would like to change that perspective by starting with smaller scale with researching a small city in Japan.
