On 11 (Tue) Oct 2016, Kyoto University – FAO International Seminar was jointly organized by Graduate School of Agriculture, Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability and Leading Programme: Graduate School of Advance Leadership Studies at Kyoto Daigaku Higashi Ichijo-kan.

In the opening remarks, Yasuyoshi Sakai (Professor, Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University) explained a history of personnel exchange on the Memorandum of Understanding:MOU between Kyoto University and FAO established on 7 June 2016. This agreement aims at impact assessment of climate change on food, research cooperation on food safety and estimation of food production, and personnel exchange. For the establishment of the MOU, Yosuke Yamashiki (Prof, Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability) and Charles Boliko (Director, FAO Liaison office in Japan) were the focal points.
 
Masami Takeuchi (FAO Food Safety Officer, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Protection / Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) talked about mandate of FAO and its actual work as well as the importance of food safety in food security. She also shared with the participants attracting points on working in an international organization including FAO as well as important skills required to work for international agencies and FAO programmes for students. The participants raised a variety of questions such as FAO’s work and Ms Takeuchi’s career development.
 
Then, Kosuke Shiraishi (PhD candidate, Graduate School of Agriculture/Leading Programme: Graduate School of Advanced Leadership Studies, Kyoto University) introduced his experience of one-year internship at FAO. He stated that discussing with external experts and handling formal data/information shared by the member countries were very much meaningful. He also reported that working with many intelligences in an international environment was stimulating.
